Social-Emotional Services for students and families facing mental health challenges in the education setting.
The purpose of the WEG Social-Emotional Division is to help the parent(s)/guardian(s) of students with internalizing and/or externalizing behaviors navigate the educational system and obtain the appropriate school services and placement options required to meet the individual learning needs of your child.
We collaborate with school teams and families, sharing our expert opinions and developing programming to positively impact your child's academic and social-emotional success.
Our expertise on school avoidance, internalizing/externalizing behaviors, transitions to/from hospitalizations, and all aspects of emotional disabilities will provide you and your child with resources to ensure optimal success.
Dr. Kristen Eccleston specializes in working with families facing internalizing mental health barriers in the education setting, including but not limited to school avoidance, anxiety, and/or concerns with the student's current educational environment.
Dr. Paul Livelli brings experience and skill in supporting families of students struggling with behaviors that interfere with academic success. Students who work with Dr. Livelli frequently demonstrate significant externalizing behaviors that are disruptive to the student and their peers within the educational setting.
Shari Perry, M. Ed., has expertise in supporting families navigating expulsion hearings, appeals dealing with student discipline concerns, including; change of school assignment; complaints from the public; and other superintendent-level appeals.
The Social-Emotional Services division of WEG operates solely to support families of students struggling to cope with behaviors impacting their academic and social-emotional success. We are dedicated to supporting families of students struggling to overcome challenges that impact their academic and social-emotional success. Our team is committed to providing advocacy, expert witness services, and information related to services that support your child's social-emotional needs.
In the course of our work, we also make recommendations for any additional assessments or services that may be necessary to help your child to realize their potential.
We are available to continue to monitor the implementation of the plan that we have helped create and to make any necessary changes or updates.
Although we do not accept insurance, families may qualify for a reduced rate for our advocacy services based on a review of financial need. Some families may qualify for funding for WEG’s work through the Low Intensity Support Service program, LISS. Round 1 opens May 1st.
Parents of students who are Black and have special needs may also qualify for some no cost services through SEE US.
We speak with you to understand your concerns and goals.
We review related educational records, including assessments, previous plans (IEP/504), report cards, and communication between home and school.
We collaborate with all involved professionals to gain an understanding of their perspectives.
We observe your child in school (without their knowing we are there to see them). While at school, we speak with involved school staff to gain an understanding of their perspective.
We meet with you to present our expert opinion, including changes that may be needed in the current program and any suggestions for alternative public and/or private programs.
We communicate with school personnel through phone calls, written communication and/or meetings to advocate for the necessary changes in program and/or placement.
We create or modify Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and/or Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) for school use and to assist parents with behavior planning in the home setting.
